Disability Connection's advocacy priorities are centered around the barriers and discrimination people with disabilities experience. Our Independent Living Specialists can guide individuals through self-advocacy and may work with people on individual advocacy issues. Together we can all work on systems-advocacy and the ongoing fights for justice in housing, transportation, healthcare, and equal access to our community.

Independent Living (IL) Skills are the actions and knowledge that enable a person to live on their own. Our one-on-one skills training varies on your needs. We can offer services such as iPhone accessibility features training, braille lessons, emergency preparedness, and more.
Our team can help you find the information you are looking for and give you a peer perspective on the local programs and resources available. The Center may also refer you to other providers for additional services toward independence
Our staff has lived experiences with disabilities and living in the Mid-South area. When navigating new resources and programs, we can share a peer perspective that will assist you in remaining independent and active in the community. Additionally, we offer two peer groups that meet monthly. The first group learns to line dance, and the other group meets for game night!
Whether you are a parent of a youth with a disability, an adult, or a senior, our team is here to assist you through navigating a new stage in your life. Our team is there for you if you are figuring out life after high school, new to Memphis, or returning to the community from a nursing home.
