People with disabilities are a powerful and significant part of our community, yet as a group, our social roles have been marginalized by bigotry, discrimination, poverty, isolation, dependency, and pity. Americans with disabilities have not had access to transportation, housing, and employment that other citizens have enjoyed; Disability Connection Midsouth will change that.
Disability Connection's advocacy priorities are centered around the barriers and discrimination people with disabilities experience. An Independent Living Specialist teaches self-advocacy and may work with people on individual advocacy issues. Together we can all work on systems-advocacy and the ongoing fights for justice in housing, transportation, healthcare, and equal access to our community.
Since 2024, Disability Connection Midsouth is proud to host the annual Disability Day on the Bluff (DDOB) in Memphis, TN. This event is an opportunity for advocates located in the Midsouth region to congregate in one space for a day of advocacy, education, and unity. Whether you are an advocate, family member, part of a local organization with a similar mission, or new to the community, DDOB is an opportune time to network and learn about resources and how to address critical issues affecting people with disabilities.
Details for the 2026 Disability Day on the Bluff are still to be announced. We typically host the event in March or April. We will have speakers, space to address key issues, lunch, and time to visit resource tables. We hope you will join us!
Disability Day on the Hill is our chance to unite as the Tennessee disability community and engage in the legislative process. We believe that having a disability should not limit our liberty to live a life of our choosing. This annual event is held by the TN Disability Coalition in Nashville, TN typically in March.
